Data sources
This page summarises the public data sources used by selected LFR observation surfaces and the limits of what those sources can support.

General source boundary
Unless a page states otherwise, public-data observations are derived from publicly available records, archived snapshots, or generated demo datasets. Public source data may be delayed, corrected, incomplete, unavailable, or subject to schema changes. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by public data providers unless expressly stated.
GB grid, BESS, and balancing data
- Elexon / BMRS public records
- Used for public balancing-market observations such as accepted bid / offer volume, BM Unit metadata, accepted-action cadence, high-volume versus high-cadence role separation, and public support-role ecology. These outputs read external accepted-action cadence only. They do not diagnose asset health, fatigue, degradation, delivery quality, warranty liability, or internal operating condition. Relevant public source pages include the Elexon Insights Solution, Elexon API Developer Portal, and Elexon's BMRS open data licence.
- NESO public data
- Used for public power-flow projection layers such as demand, embedded generation, boundary or interconnector context, storage pumping context, ramp pressure, and support-field indicators. These outputs are not electromagnetic field imaging, grid stability assessment, reliability forecast, or control instruction. Relevant public source pages include the NESO Data Portal, NESO API guidance, and the NESO Open Licence.
- Carbon Intensity public data
- Used where regional carbon-intensity context is displayed or used as a public contextual layer. It is not a complete physical model of generation, transmission, dispatch, or local asset operation. Relevant source pages include the Carbon Intensity API.
- National Grid public network information
- Used where public route-map, transmission route, substation, overhead-line, cable, or geography reference layers are displayed. These layers provide public geographic context only and are not engineering design drawings, operational network models, or safety clearances. Relevant source pages include National Grid Electricity Transmission network route maps.
Finance and market data
Finance observation pages use public or archived market data where stated on the relevant page or dataset. Outputs are structural observations, not forecasts, trading signals, investment research, or investment advice.
Battery, BMS, DEM, and experimental datasets
Battery, BMS, DEM, and materials pages may use public datasets, client-scoped datasets, or internally generated simulations. Each page or report should state the dataset basis where relevant. Claims are limited to the observable data and method described.
Derived outputs
LFR transforms source records into derived features, visualisations, reports, and candidate observations. Derived outputs depend on method choices such as time window, normalisation, unit matching, filtering, field mapping, and threshold language. They should be read with the applicable method note, report boundary, and disclaimer.
Attribution statements
Where LFR observation surfaces, figures, or reports use the following sources, the applicable attribution is:
- Elexon / BMRS: Contains BMRS data © Elexon Limited copyright and database right 2026, used under the BMRS open data licence.
- NESO: Contains data from the National Energy System Operator (NESO) Data Portal, used under the NESO Open Licence.
- Carbon Intensity: Contains data from the Carbon Intensity API (National Energy System Operator / University of Oxford).
- National Grid: Contains public network route information from National Grid Electricity Transmission.
Source-specific terms
Public data remains subject to the source provider's terms, licences, attribution requirements, and availability. Where you reuse public-source data or LFR derived files, you are responsible for checking the applicable source terms.
